What is the Best Laptop Bag for a Commuter- Backpack or Messenger Bag?

We finally have Bike Share Stations in Houston called B Bike. The city is getting so congested that it is actually a wonderful idea for getting around downtown. I was out in the heart of the city yesterday and I saw people riding around with several types of bags. It made me think about what the best laptop bag would be for a commuter because I saw people using laptop backpacks as well as messenger bags.

You mostly see guys using big bulky backpacks these days as well as messenger bags so I decided to take a poll using my circle of customers, friends and family from New York to Chicago and LA.jack georges messenger bag

Simone F.-Chicago  Simone lives out in the burbs but has an office in the heart of the city and takes the train in from Barrington several days a week. She works on her laptop on her way in and usually goes straight to a meeting where she carries not only her bag but portfolios to show clients.  She prefers a messenger bag like this Jack Georges Leather Messenger Bag so that she can have her hands free, be able to move the bag around to the front when she is in a crowded space on the train and it also looks very chic when she gets to her meeting.

leather laptop backpackZach M. NYC- Zach is a musician and lives in Brooklyn. He is working on an album and commutes by train and walking to get to his studio and to his gigs.  His laptop is his lifeline so he always has it with him. He chose a Leather Laptop Backpack from designer Jack Georges. Leather because he likes they way it looks and feels and he really liked all of the pockets and organization spaces. He carries it on one shoulder when he is on the train and holds on to it for dear life.

Gary C. Venice California-Gary is a professional photographer is constantly traveling and Leather laptop messenger bagcommuting in whatever major city he finds himself. He ships his large hard shell camera equipment but he carries his basic DSLR and laptop so he uses a Leather Messenger Camera and Laptop Bag from Jill-e.

The interior can be rearranged for what ever he carries and it looks really sharp and professional when he arrives at a shoot.

I chose just a few out of all the people I polled.  I would say Messenger Bags over Backpacks unless you are a student.

Quick Tip: Measure your laptop before buying a laptop bag

Whether you like the compact size of a netbook or the full power of a laptop, you want to be sure that you have it well protected from the outside elements. To find the best fitting netbook case or a laptop bag, the first thing is to know the dimensions of your device. Because each brand has different dimensions for their devices, the best way is to measure your device first.

Measuring your device is simple

Just like measuring a TV, measure the laptop screen diagonally. The width and height vary by brand; so get all your device dimensions before you start searching for a laptop bag.

measure laptopAdditional Tips:

  • Choose a bag that has a Device Compartment slightly wider than the dimension of your device.
  • A laptop sleeve should fit snuggly.

Now that you know the correct size of your device, choose a perfect netbook case or a laptop bag that fits your style.

Dallas Accessories Market Spring 2013 Report

Even though it got down to 38 degrees in Dallas over the weekend, Spring was definitely in the air at the Accessories Market. Colorful and bright and more fashion tech products than I have seen in a long time. I think that some of these designers have finally realized that tech toys are an important part of our daily lives.

ILi 6841bigColor blocking is a word that we all hear and I saw a really great collection of leather products that used color blocking in the most beautiful and practical way. I hope to have them in our store very soon. These gorgeous leather colorful cases are iPad carrying cases with a little handle and a strap.  The colors made me so happy!

ILibrief

This designer also has some briefcases in all of the colors that you see on the iPad cases. the prices were really amazing for an all leather collection. It was impressive!

We also found some terrific iPad cases from one of our current designers and will have some new iPad cases and covers up in the next few weeks. I was really glad to see colorful new laptop bags and business cases.

I have always thought that business accessories do not need to be boring so I know that you will love what I found!

5 Ways to Spring Clean and Organize your Office

The arrival of spring often motivates us to clean our homes and spruce up the yard. Why not do the same for your office? Cleaning your office is typically not a top priority, but the resulting clutter and disorganization can definitely slow you down. Follow these 5 SPRING cleaning tips for a fresher environment and a new outlook.

Spring-Flowers-Wallpapers2

Before you begin go buy yourself some flowers for your desk to put you in the mood.Who doesn’t love flowers?

1. Schedule your clean-up advance. The day before, have large wastShreadere receptacles and cull through old files and remove unused desk items. Make it fun with a casual day and a healthy lunch whether it is your home office or company office. While taking a few hours to clean will likely interrupt the work flow for the day, in the long run it will make you all much more efficient.  Don’t forget a shredder for sensitive items like receipts, bank statements, or confidential client information.

2. Recycle or Donate.

That old monitor, printer, blackberry’s (so 90’s) stored for the last two years is taking up prime real estate. Go through youOld-internet-productsr office and collect old electronics and extra still-usable supplies like tape dispensers and staplers. If items are salvageable, donate them to a local non-profit, otherwise recycle them along with appropriate paper products.

3. Invest in new supplies.

Cute Note Set and File ToteNow that drawers and cabinets are free of clutter, it’s time to restock. Make a list of the frequently used items and be sure to include organizers for drawers and desktops as well. Having the right supplies at your fingertips will keep you focused on your work, not wasting time tracking down incidentals. Also consider buying fun and colorful files. Workd does not need to be boring.

4. Neaten up your computer.

Computer filesSift through emails, deleting unneeded files and organizing those you want to keep. Turn a critical eye to documents, photos, and files on your desktop. If you haven’t used or looked at them in a year, do you really need them front and center? Delete them or refile.

5. Organize your desk. Start with your filing system. I share an office with someone who needs to have everything on his desk that he thinks he might be working on. We are talking CHAOS! While we each have our own way of organizing, in general it’s helpful to set up a system that includes four components:

This Spring Desk Accessories and File Totes from Jamie Raquel now sits on my desk and in my office.

1) An Inbox such as a letter tray for random items
2) A Review File for magazine articles or potentiaDesktop Accessories - Hot Pinkl projects
3) A Tickler File for future action items
4) A Current Projects File often kept handy in a wire filing rack on the desktop

Next, think about your overall practices and procedures. Are there any new or simpler ways of doing things? This is a good time to re-evaluate and update.

Quick Tips for Healthy Business Travel

Non-stop coffee, obligatory evening drinks, skipped meals and extended dinner feasts, jet lag and long, intense days in conference rooms.  Where are we?  On a Business trip, of course. Fortunately, with a bit of intention and planning, you can stay healthy during business travel.  When I go to trade shows to find the newest Laptop Bags and Business Cases for Careerbags I need to be careful and not get off track or I will get home feeling awful and tired.

  1. Make an effort to drink water throughout the day – it will help your Drink Waterenergy and stress levels, keep your skin looking fresh, moderate your appetite and keep your nose and throat moisturized to boost your resistance to catching colds. If you’re worried about water quality, drink bottled water and think of the cost as an investment in your health!
  2. Eat a proper breakfast- I’m often not in control of my schedule when I travel, so it’s hard to know when, or what, I’ll eat next.  healthy breakfastBut one thing I can control is my breakfast.  Make sure to eat protein and avoid sugar. Too much sugar at breakfast can make you feel energized at first, but you’ll become tired and hungry when the sugar rush wears off. Instead, protein will give you steady energy and help you feel full for longer.
  3. Carry Healthy Snacks- almonds, an apple and a bottle of water have really been life savers for me. When I go to trade shows to look for new Laptop Bags and Travel Papple-and-almondsroducts the food lines are so long that it cuts into my buying time. The food is usually hamburgers or wilted salads so make sure that you have a stash of something healthy and fulfilling.

If you have any great advice I would love to hear how you stay on track when you travel.

Qick Tip from a Road Warrior

I am on my way to Dallas to design some new bags for Careerbags. I am so excited to be working with a great team of people. I never over pack and usually wear everything I take. Yes I write down what I plan to wear on a specific day but I don’t get crazy over it. I have been known to wear my Friday choice on a different day. So that is my quick tip of the week.

Yes that is my actual list. I scribble when I write but at least I get it.

Designer Spotlight-Cabrelli & Co

We are so excited to start our new series called Designer Spotlight. I love this idea but I cannot take credit for it because our returning Social Network Guru, Yiana from www.designleap.net  suggested it.  The first Brand that we are spotlighting is a fantastic company out of Canada.

CABRELLI & CO

Cabrelli & Co. has been around since 1940 and they really change with the times. Their Fashion Executive Roller-brief collection or rolling laptop bag as we call them is the perfect item for the woman “on-the-go” who needs to bring her computer and files everywhere she goes.  If you travel by plane there is not a better option out there and we have seen them all. It is for the woman who needs space and structure, but with a great stylish twist that still looks professional.

Developed to be a carry-on size for planes, the Roller-briefs offer a variety of trendy colors, shapes, prints and materials.  They also feature padded compartments for laptops and tablets, organizer pockets, quality retractable handles and sturdy in-line wheels. The Chocolate Faux Croc Rolling Laptop Bag is my personal favorite. Mine will arrive any day. it fits a 15.4″ laptop Computer and tons of room for all of your necessities.

In March they are adding  Executive handbags that were made especially for the Rolling laptop Bags with my favorite feature. They fit over the handles of the Roller-brief to make navigating airports easy; and each handbag has a padded sleeve for either a tablet or e-Reader.

We Still Love Books

I love to hold a beautifully bound book. I have always appreciated what went into creating a book from a book binding class I took many years ago. Because oiPhone and iPad chargerf my passion for hard bound books it took me a few years to get a kindle and then I progressed to and iPad when we started carrying such cute iPad and tablet cases.

When I found a designer with a brilliant idea to turn hard bound books into iPhone charger stations I was so excited. I actually have Pride and Prejudice iPhone Dock next to my bed.

He takes beautifully bound books of the Classics and some newer more popular titles as well. How about a Peter Pan iPhone charger in a beautiful turquoise bound cover? A perfect gift for that significant other that will never grow up.

We also have iPhone and iPod Docks from Shakespeare Sonnets to Alice in Wonderland and an Oscar Wilde

4 Qualities to display at the workplace

Your workplace demands a certain code of conduct. Although, you have different aspects of a personality, there are things that you need to keep in check when you are in the work environment or it gives a wrong impression of you to your subordinates and seniors. I know that you think that you have friends at work but remember they are “Work Friends” and still competition.  Here are 4 essential qualities that will keep you in good standing with your company and ensure a growth in your career path.
1. Dress appropriately
They say do not judge a book by its cover but your attire and physical appearance does go into your evaluation report. You must only dress in business attire such as shirts and a knee length skirt or trousers, a coat, etc. Make sure you only wear business clothing. Do not wear skin hugging clothes with deep neck lines or extremely short skirts. Carry a professional looking work bag that has a classic quality look to it.
2. Contact with juniors and employees
Although every company has a different work culture, it is advisable that you greet your superiors or subordinates with a hand shake. Hugging or kissing is a strict no, especially with your boss. This can seriously jeopardize your career.
3. Relationship with students and assistants
Woman employers in power position often become easy targets. If you are in authority and have female or male assistants/students/scholars working under you, a romantic relationship is not tolerated in most organizations and institutions.
4. Office flirting
Are you someone with a high energy disposition? Perhaps your conduct can be misinterpreted. It’s alright to talk to people and be friendly but flirting and playing around physically or verbally should be avoided. Maintain a healthy professional interaction with your colleagues.
